Race and Ethnicity: Community Engagement Groups
Race Equality Forum
The Race Equailty Forum Official Launch Event took place on Thursday 16th July 2009 at Arnold School, Lytham Road, Blackpool. To see the video please go to the Equality in Blackpool YouTube page. (Blackpool Council is not responsible for the content of external websites)The purpose of the Forum is
- To raise awareness of race equality issues for the community at a strategic level and provide an opportunity for people from all ethnic backgrounds, to express their needs for, and their views on the services provided by Blackpool Council
- To provide an opportunity for Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups to be involved in the monitoring and review of our Race Equality Scheme.
We aim to listen to feedback from a range of people (including existing community groups) who live and work in Blackpool, so that we can develop and improve access to all local services for people of all backgrounds. Meetings are held quarterly and various subjects have been discussed, such as:
- Cultural celebration events
- Encouraging Hate Crime reporting
- Community Cohesion Initiatives
- Preston and Western Lancashire Racial Equality Council Services
- Joint Community Projects
- Schools and Young People's issues
The Police, Fire and Rescue Services and NHS Blackpool also attend the meetings, along with representatives from a variety of voluntary and community groups.
