Ranger Service

Ranger Service Established in 2005, Blackpool Council’s Ranger Service is one of the newest in the country. Our role is to promote, interpret and maintain Blackpool’s ecological assets.

The creation of our new team reflects the growing trend of putting dedicated uniformed staff back onto urban parks and reserves after their demise in many towns and cities during the past two decades.

Modern day Rangers aim to address community engagement and conservation as well as security, the need for welcoming as much as policing and the concerns of both users and non-users.

The key functions of the Ranger Service are as follows:
  • Provide a point of contact and information
  • Implement a varied programme of events
  • Organise tailor made environmental education sessions with local park users and work with the local community groups and businesses
  • Manage the Borough’s dedicated Volunteer Ranger Service
  • Undertake specialist conservation work and manage contracts & services
  • Carry out daily patrols and inspections
  • Create a sense of personal safety for visitors through enforcing byelaws and working with the local Police
  • Develop and implement site management plans and annual work programmes
  • Raise funds to help improve Blackpool’s environment
