Vision Zero
Over 3000 people die on Britain’s roads every year. And for every one person that dies there can be dozens affected. Road crashes don’t just kill people but cause trauma and grief for those family and friends left behind.
Blackpool Council launched the Vision Zero campaign in September 2007, aiming to reduce deaths on Blackpool’s roads to zero. Blackpool’s vision is one of no more lives lost on our roads.
The Vision Zero campaign aims to educate all road users about the dangers they face on the roads and teach them how to act responsibly, whether they are driving, walking, riding or cycling.
It can never be ethically acceptable that people are killed or seriously injured on our roads.
The responsibility for road crashes should be shared by everyone.
While it is the responsibility of the highway designers to ensure that roads are as safe as they can be and speed limits are appropriate to the area, it is also the responsibility of road users to act in the safest way possible to try to ensure the safety of themselves and others on the roads.
This vision of shared responsibility reflects Blackpool’s underlying view that ‘Road Safety Is Everyone’s Responsibility’.
Blackpool Council asks you, as a road user to take responsibility when out and about on the roads.
