Training for multi- and inter-agency working means training which will equip people to work successfully with those from other agencies. Chapter Four of ‘Working Together, ‘Training and Development for Inter-Agency Work’, provides guidance on the training and development of staff and volunteers to help them safeguard and promote the welfare of children effectively.
This work typically takes place in two ways:
1. Single agency training which is carried out by a particular agency for its own staff, and
2. Inter-agency training which is for the employees of different agencies who
come together for work and for training and development. Training delivered on
an inter-agency basis is highly effective in promoting shared understanding
and common purpose.
The BSCB is responsible for developing policies, in relation to staff training, for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in Blackpool. The BSCB is also responsible for checking and evaluating single and inter-agency training to ensure that it is meeting local needs.
In common with many other Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) areas, we in BSCB both commission and deliver inter-agency training. This function is delegated, operationally, to the BSCB Training Co-ordinator, guided by the Training Subgroup, working with a ‘training pool’ of suitable skilled and experienced staff and complemented by externally commissioned experts to deliver some highly specialised training. The multi-agency Training Sub-group is responsible to the BSCB for ensuring that the focus of inter-agency training is consistent with the priorities identified by the BSCB and that the training itself is effective.
