How is the Appeal Panel made up?
The Appeal Panel consists of three or five members. The Panel will comprise of at least:
- One person who is 'experienced in education', usually someone who has had direct experience in the management of a school, and
- One 'lay person', someone not connected to the admissions authority and no direct personal experience in the management of a school.
None of the Appeal Panel will have any former knowledge of the case other than your notice of appeal and the Local Authority’s statement. All members of the Appeal Panel are independent of the school and the Local Authority.
