What are the school funding arrangements 2004/05 and 2005/06?

On 29th October 2003 The Secretary of State outlined school funding arrangements for 2004-05 and 2005-06 in a statement to Parliament.

Work has been ongoing with Local Authority, Teacher and Governor representatives over the last few months to put together a package to deliver stability and certainty for schools.

The package aims to support schools in three ways:

  • A guaranteed minimum increase in every school's per pupil budget
  • Additional resources at Local Education Authority level which can be targeted at schools with additional pressures
  • A package of transitional support to help schools facing the greatest difficulty in bringing their budgets back into balance.
Previously announced cuts to the Standards Fund have been reversed and there are a number of changes to give schools the flexibility and freedom to target the grant to meet their own needs and priorities. Schools will also receive an increase in the amount of Standards Fund, Schools Standards Grant and funding from the LSC (Learning and Skills Council) for sixth forms in line with the minimum guarantee.

You can access further details including a copy of the statement and briefing notes, on the school funding website, School Funding Website
