What is School Workforce Remodelling?

Remodelling has the potential to enhance the status and work/life balance of all who work in the education sector and significantly improve pupils' learning opportunities and standards of achievement. Remodelling is an opportunity to reassess the necessary roles and to focus on the work of those involved in the education of a pupil: this will provide every pupil with a chance to achieve greater success and higher standards.

Remodelling involves change. Understanding and managing change is a key part of the school remodelling process and one which can often prove the most difficult. Rather just being instructions to be carried out, the change process involves a fundamental alteration in mindset.

A key question for schools is 'Are there opportunities for improvement and do we need to be asking some hard questions?'. The aim of the Change Process is to provide schools with the competency and capacity to identify the workforce remodelling changes which need to be made at their particular school. It is up to the individual school to identify and own the issues. There's no secret formula - one size does not fit all.

The Government has made a commitment to raising standards to match or exceed its targets and to achieve a better work/life balance for teachers and other adults employed in schools. At the heart of the National Remodelling Programme is a fundamental belief that deep-seated change can and does occur - what it requires are new attitudes and behaviours, new beliefs and values, and new skills and capabilities be created and, importantly, sustained.
