Does the Sensory Support Service provide specialist teaching and support?

Specialist teaching and support is available to children and pupils who are either hearing and/or visually impaired.

Specialist teaching is available for:

  • pre-school children
  • children attending maintained or non-maintained nurseries
  • pupils in mainstream schools
  • pupils in special schools
  • students in Further Education by appointment

We also provide advice on and provision of a range of educational communication approaches and technical aids to support access to the curriculum including:

  • oral / aural
  • BSL (British Sign Language)
  • SSE (Sign Support English) and Total Communications methods
  • personal hearing aids
  • radio hearing aids
  • auditory trainers
  • low vision aids
  • braille
  • modified material
  • mobility
  • habilitation
  • soundfield Amplification
