Sex Establishment Licence
On 16th March 2011 Blackpool Council resolved to adopt amendments to Schedule 3 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 “The Act”. This means that anyone wishing to operate a sex establishment must first obtain a licence from the Council.
A sex establishment is defined as:
- A sex shop
- A sex cinema
- A sexual entertainment venue
The amendments to the Act require lap dancing and similar establishments to obtain a sexual entertainment venue (SEV) licence in addition to any licence required by the Licensing Act 2003. Applications for a SEV licence may be submitted between 2nd May 2011 (first appointed day) and 2nd November 2011 (second appointed day). The Council will consider all applications received in this six month period together. Applications received after the second appointed day will be considered individually. Any SEV licence will come into effect on 2nd May 2012 (third appointed day).
