Blackpool Adult Social Services helps to support people aged 18+ who qualify for care under our eligibility criteria. This site tells you about local social care services and how to access them.

You will find information and links to other organisations which may be able to advise you about social care. You will also be able to download information about local services from the Publications section on the right hand side of this page.

Getting the Care You Need

You understand your own needs and how to meet them better than anyone. We want to help you to achieve the things that are important to you.

Together we will be able to find the best way to support you to live your life the way you want. When you contact us we will talk to you about what you want out of life and how you can best achieve what you want. At that point Social Services will know how much help they can provide for you. This will range from straight forward information about local services and activities that you will find useful to financial help to assist you to buy the services you require.

The level of service you receive will depend on your individual level of need. There is no such thing as a standard package of care – everyone is different and will want to live their lives in different ways. The most important thing is that, if you think we can help you, you should get in touch. Our contact details are on the right hand side of this page.

Help to Live at Home

Wherever possible Social Services wants people to enjoy their lives and live in their own home in the community they know. There may be a range of services and organisations you can contact before you need to come to Social Services for help. For further information about these services click here.

Social Care Services

Social care services are provided by the Council, independent organisations such as care homes and the voluntary sector e.g AgeUK. Click on the following links for more information.
What happens when you contact us.

We'll ask you some questions: your age; address; what things you are finding difficult to manage; if anyone helps look after you and the name of your GP. We may then come and visit you to find out more information about you and how you live your life. We may also want to speak to anyone else who helps look after you , for example friends, relatives, other professionals such as district nurses or your doctor. This is called an assessment.

Anyone can ask for an assessment of their needs, even if you think that you are not eligible for financial support from Social Services to pay for your care. We can give you advice and information that will make sure that you choose the right services for you. Your assessment and any advice and information we give you will be free of charge.

You can have a family member or a friend with you when you meet Social Services. if you would prefer to have someone independent with you, you can contact Blackpool Advocacy (Tel: 01253 405959).

If you are assessed as requiring help, and you are eligible for help from Social Services, we will calculate your Personal Budget. This is the amount that Social Services can contribute towards the cost of your care. You may have to make a contribution to the cost of the care you need . This will be based on your assets and your income. You can get further information on Personal Budgets here.

You can decide who and how the services you need will be delivered to you. You can arrange your services yourself, or ask someone else to do it (including Social Services). However you decide to arrange your services, we can give you support and advice.

Arranging your own care

You can contact a private care organisation directly if you want. Most private organisations will be happy to provide you with services for a fee. You can still ask us for an assessment of your needs and use the information we give you to plan what you want the private agency to do. All residential and home care agencies should be registered with the Care Quality Commission and you should ask to see their latest inspection report.
