How the Solaris Centre helps the Environment

SAMMY: Hello! We work at the Solaris Centre to help bring environmental awareness to the community. That means we want people of all ages to understand the effect we people have on the planet!

SALLY: The Solaris Centre generates its own electricity from wind and solar power to run the appliances in the building. We have two wind turbines and solar (photovoltaic) cells on the roof that generate electricity. A passive solar panel to helps heat our hot water!

DID YOU KNOW....

There is enough wind energy to power the country three times over yet the UK still only gets about 3% of it's electricity from wind.

SAMMY: The Solaris Centre also holds events and exhibitions which teach about the environment. We want young and old people to learn different ways to save energy and help our planet!

DID YOU KNOW...

Currently 6% of the UK's electricity supply comes from renewable sources like wind and solar energy that the Solaris Centre uses!

SALLY: The Solaris Centre also wants people to think about the animals and nature.  We want all of you to help us spread the word about looking after the animals on our planet... and the ones we keep at home! So come along and have a look at the wildlife habitats we have in the grounds. Schools and community groups can arrange pond dipping or rock pooling events too.

Come visit and help us help the planet!

- Sally and Sammy
