Why are speed humps introduced on some roads?

The speed limit on the majority of Blackpools' roads is 30 miles per hour or less. Sadly, some drivers travel at inappropriate speeds especially on residential roads.

If this is the case, then engineering measures, for example road humps or bus cushions are introduced to slow traffic down and enforce lower speeds.

If everyone drives carefully and considerately, there would be no need for these physical measures to create a safer environment for vulnerable road users.
