Speed Limits

Exceeding the speed limit or travelling too fast for the conditions is a contributory factor in hundreds of deaths and over 34,600 injuries nationally every year.  Every driver can make a difference just by slowing down a few miles per hour and observing speed limits.

Blackpool is 30 or less
Blackpool Council’s ‘Blackpool is 30 or less’ campaign aims to slow vehicles down on Blackpool’s roads and create a safer environment for all road users.

All but three of Blackpool’s roads have 30mph or less speed limits.

When people sign up to the Blackpool is 30 or less campaign they are pledging to keep to the speed limit within the town.

As a result, it is hoped we can calm traffic in Blackpool and the number of people killed and injured will decrease.

If you would like to pledge to keep to the speed limit in Blackpool contact the Travel and Road Safety Office or pledge online.

20mph zones
The Council is committed to making Blackpool’s roads as safe as possible and will be looking over the next few years at introducing 20mph zones around schools and other residential areas where this would be appropriate. In the meantime drivers are asked to slow down in these areas and be aware that children may be playing. 20mph is plenty in these locations.
