There are three types of street collections:
- A street collection in connection with a specific event (e.g. sponsored walk / fire engine pull / bike ride);
- A street collection not connected to an event (formerly known as a flag day collection). Collections are not permitted on the west side of the Promenade. The allocation of these collections is undertaken by the Council's Public Protection Sub Committee at its meeting in March in each year; and
- A line of coins collection, where coins are placed along a marked line on the west side of the Promenade.
A street collection permit is issued for the duration of the event. The 12-month period for issuing street collection permits runs from April to April. Only one collection may take place in any one vicinity per day.
Applications for a permit should be made in writing no later than one month before the date on which it is proposed to make the collection. Blackpool Council may only reduce the period of one month if satisfied that there are special reasons for doing so.
Collections are only allowed within the borough if either the people of Blackpool will derive a benefit from the collection (either directly or indirectly), or it is a well established national organisation.
