Suggestions for New Parking Restrictions

Unfortunately the increasing volume of vehicles being driven and parked on the highway has led to more need/demand for parking restrictions. If there is an issue that you would like to raise please complete our online form.

Due to the levels of requests received we have to prioritise those that are deemed appropriate. To put in new restrictions (or to change existing ones) a Traffic Regulation Order has to be made.

This means that as well as the costs of signs and lines there are also administrative and legal costs involved. Once it has provisionally been agreed to proceed with proposals for a restriction it takes at least several months for these to be introduced due to the legal processes and timescales.

If objections are received against proposed restrictions these have to be considered by the Council’s Executive Committee. In some cases the Council may  decide not to proceed with a proposal.

We are aware that there are many streets where there is a demand for residents parking schemes and this is an ongoing issue that we are looking into. Further information on a programme for such schemes will be put on the website when it is available.
