Tramway Upgrade

Blackpool Trams have been operating since 1885 and carry millions of both residents and tourists every year between Blackpool and Fleetwood.

It is proposed to invest over £100m on upgrading the tramway system, bringing the service into the 21st Century.

The upgrade will include:-

16 new Bombardier trams with low floors, accessible for all users.
New Tram stops featuring level access.
Replacement of 8km of track.
Installation of 14 priority signals at highway junctions to improve journey times.
New Tram Depot at Starr Gate.
