Blackpool Trams have been operating since 1885 and carry millions of both residents and tourists every year between Blackpool and Fleetwood.
It is proposed to invest over £100m on upgrading the tramway system, bringing the service into the 21st Century.
The upgrade will include:-
- 16 new Bombardier trams with low floors, accessible for all users.
- New Tram stops featuring level access.
- Replacement of 8km of track.
- Installation of 14 priority signals at highway junctions to improve journey times.
- New Tram Depot at Starr Gate.
