How does Blackpool’s transport policy framework support social inclusion measures?

The Council requires developers to contribute to making their schemes accessible to households without cars. Transport to existing developments is improved using Local Transport Plan Strategy money, including new pedestrian crossing facilities, cycle facilities and improvements for buses. Developments located in accessible locations are preferred.

Deprived communities need good buses to get to work, shopping, schools and recreation facilities - Click here for supported services.

The Council’s Quality Bus Corridor programme will improve bus services. Encouraging people to take the bus will increase social cohesion allowing people to mix more. Buses, cycling and walking will be promoted to everybody, particularly for commuting trips.

The Cycling Towns initiative has provided extra cycle training and development opportunities, helping job seekers to cycle to work. The initiative has provided training opportunities to people who have been unemployed.
