Travel Plans - Sustainable Transport

Travel Plans - Sustainable Transport Everyone has a part to play in travelling efficiently to cut congestion, pollution and improve road safety. Organisations and individuals can reduce travel related costs by managing their own travel by preparing a Travel Plan.

A Travel Plan is a package of measures that promote sustainable travel modes – public transport, cycling, walking and car sharing – with the aim of reducing the number of single occupancy car journeys. Travel planning makes places more accessible by making sustainable travel easier, safer, cheaper and more convenient.

A Travel Plan works to give people more realistic travel choices. The car is a difficult habit to break but if people who currently drive to work were to use sustainable transport once a week then there would be a 20% decrease in traffic and a significant improvement in everyone’s quality of life.

Travel Plans make a difference by encouraging:

Efficient travel – Road space is released, fewer carbon emissions are produced, money is saved and more exercise is taken.
Less travel – Travel Plans may encourage fewer but more effective journeys.
