Computer Support Volunteer Role Description
Outline
To provide help and support to the Day Centre users to access the computer facilities at the centre.
Responsible to the Voluntary Service Officer (VSO)
Tasks & Responsibilities
- To help day centre users learn how to e-mail, use a mouse and print out documents.
- To help access the internet.
- To help service users with the various programmes that are available, for example the greetings card programme and card games such as solitaire.
Volunteers are expected to make every effort to:
- Take part in the induction
- Attend training and support meetings
- Meet with VSO for reviews to talk about how you are getting on
- Maintain awareness of other services to support carers with our help
Skills and Experience
Personal qualities are very important – volunteers must be patient, understanding and have a genuine interest in people.
Volunteers should be approachable and reliable and be able to work as part of a team when necessary.
Experience of computers would be desirable but not essential.
Training, Support and Expenses
Volunteers receive ongoing support through monthly meetings and social activities. Opportunities to meet on a one-to-one basis are also given.
Training is offered and further arrangements can be made to meet personal needs. Out of pocket expenses can be claimed back including travel expenses. We ask you to give between 1.5 and 2 hours per week on a regular basis.
