Walking to School

Walking to School
Walking is a great way to improve your fitness, protect the local environment and save yourself some money. Walking is one of the safest physical activities - there is very little risk of injury and it doesn't hurt.

Blackpool Council encourages parents and children to walk to and from school in an effort to reduce peak time congestion on Blackpool's roads.

The Travel and Road Safety Team promote regular Walks to and from School campaigns to encourage children and parents to walk whenever possible.

During the campaigns the team visit primary schools across Blackpool to walk with pupils and parents.

So why walk to school?

  • Walking is a great way to keep fit - a brisk walk is good for your heart
  •
  • You can practise valuable road safety skills - you're never too young to learn
  •
  • It's less stressful - no driving around to find a parking space, or parking on zig zag lines and causing an obstruction to others

  • A chance to discover the local environment
  •
  • You are helping the environment by cutting down on greenhouse gases
  •
  • Walking costs nothing
  • Watch out for a walk at your school!
