Weighbridge Operators Certificate
Certificate of Competence to Act as a Public Weighbridge Operator
Section 18 of the Weights and Measures Act 1985 (information on the legislation can be found by visiting www.legislation.gov.uk) states that anyone who attends to the weighing or measuring by means of weighing/measuring equipment available for public use where a charge is made must hold a certificate. The certificate issued by the Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures states that the holder has enough knowledge to perform his / her duties properly. This includes operators of public weighbridges. To get a certificate for use in Blackpool, you should apply to our Quality Standards Team. Before a certificate can be granted, you have to demonstrate your competency by taking a short practical test and a verbal test where the weighbridge is located. The certificate, once granted, will be valid in any area but only on a weighbridge of the precise make and type to which the certificate relates. Any person refused a certificate can appeal to the Secretary of State for Business Innovation and Skills via www.berr.gov.uk/Our quality standards team can be contacted at the address shown on the right.
