Almost all goods today are sold by some reference to quantity - either by weight or measure, whether by the pint, litre, gramme or metre.
This includes everyday items such as bread, petrol, beer, clothing material, sand or virtually anything else you can think of.
Blackpool Council's Quality Standards team enforces a complex set of regulations designed to ensure that the public and businesses can have confidence in their purchases and ensures fair competition. Where goods are, or are required by law, to be sold by quality we ensure you receive the right quantity.
We go to factories where the goods are packed to check they are doing it correctly, we also visit retailers to ensure that any equipment they use to weigh or measure goods is accurate and is being used in the correct way.
We are responsible for maintaining standards of quality and quantity of food and agricultural products offered at retail and wholesale level.
If you think you have received short measure from a business in Blackpool or would like further information about the work we do, please contact our Customer First centre on 477477, or alternatively you can call the Quality Standards department directly on 478327.
