Coastal and water improvements

Blackpool's sea water passed strict new EU laws in 2016 with one stretch being classed as 'excellent' and Blackpool South being granted a Blue Flag. Work continues to improve bathing waters further through the Fylde peninsula water management partnership, Turning Tides and the LOVEmyBEACH campaign.

Blackpool Council is nearing completion of a twenty year coastal defence strategy which seeks to rebuild those sections of defence most in need.

Turning Tides is a cross-agency partnership working together to achieve greater awareness, understanding and resolution of bathing water issues in the North West through the LOVEmyBEACH campaign.

Working with partners, the Fylde peninsula water management partnership aims to improve coastal protection, reduce the risk of surface water flooding and improve the quality of bathing waters and beaches along the Fylde coast.
