Apprenticeship Day to get young people into work

Young people will get the chance to meet with local employers at an Apprenticeship Open Day.

The open day will allow 16 – 19 year olds, as well as current year 11 students to discuss apprenticeship opportunities with some of the biggest companies in Blackpool and potentially be offered long term training jobs, in a drive to get more young people into work.

The open day will take place at the Blackpool Council Connexions office on Market Street, on Wednesday 8 February between 10am – 4pm, during National Apprenticeships Week.

Employers who will be attending the day include Beneast Training, North Lancs Training Group and Blackpool FC Community Trust, as well as many other businesses. A full list can be found at the bottom of this page.

Cllr Amy Cross, Cabinet Member for Young People, said: “There are lots of young people who are desperate to find a job and start working but are finding it difficult to get the support needed to enter employment.

“This apprenticeship day will give them the chance to sit down with some local employers and learn some really important tips as to how they can become more employable. If they really impress there is also a chance that they might be offered an apprenticeship too!

“Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to get their first step up the career ladder, meaning that they can earn money and gain experience at the same time.

“I thank all the businesses who have agreed to take part in the day and I am sure that they will benefit from it as much as the people who are attending.”

In addition to the businesses, all the young people who attend will be entered into a prize raffle for a chance to win tickets and vouchers at various attractions around Blackpool; including tickets to watch Blackpool FC, enter Merlin attractions and to eat at various Blackpool restaurants.

The full list of employers attending the open day includes: North Lancs Training Group, Blackpool & the Fylde College, Myerscough College, Beneast Training, Zenos IT, JTL Apprenticeships, InTraining, Blackpool FC Community Trust, NHS Cadetship & NHS Dental Cadetship.
