What should I do if I have been sent a letter about registering for Data Protection?

A number of companies are known to be offering notification services on behalf of the Information Commissioner for a fee of around £150. Do not be misled, the only operator who should contact you to register is the Information Commissioner. If the letter does not come directly from the Information Commissioner's office in Wilmslow, Cheshire, it is likely to be fake.
