Drive Drink Free On average 3000 people are killed or seriously injured each year in drink drive collisions.
Blackpool Council’s Travel & Road Safety Team promotes
Drive Drink Free campaigns twice a year to warm users of the dangers of drinking and driving.
The campaigns aim to educate road users about alcohol consumption and explain why even one drink could be too much. Any amount of alcohol can slow a driver’s reaction times and if you drive after drinking you’ll:
- Be less alert and careful, however slowly you drive
- Have trouble judging your speed
- Be slower to react to hazards and it will take you longer to stop
Myth: I’m OK to drive after a couple
Truth: No-one can judge if they’re over the limit, be best not to drink at all
Myth: I won’t get caught
Truth: Police can spot a drink driver and also do random stop checks
Did you know… Each unit of alcohol takes one hour to break down;
1 bottle of wine – about 10 hours to wear off 4 pints of strong lager – about 12 hours to wear off
One in six drink drivers are caught the morning after
If you get convicted of drink driving here’s what you could stand to lose:
- You’ll be banned from driving for at least a year
- You could lose your job
- Your insurance costs will rocket
- Your lifestyle could change dramatically
- You’ll be find up to £5000
- You could face up to six months in prison
- You’ll have a criminal record
