This collection started life as library local studies and special collections before being moved under the Heritage Service banner. It has been built and developed through various acquisitions and donations since the library opened in 1911.
Key areas of the collections include original hard copy volumes of Blackpool Newspapers. These are extremely fragile and supervised access is provided on appointment.
There are several photographic collections, including the Albert Eden Collection, the Charles Buckley Collection and the old reference image library. Blackpool Council does not own the copyright in all these images and therefore image reproduction is strictly controlled.
Please see the image reproduction page for more details.
