The programme

Get Out Get Active (GOGA) is a three-year programme delivered across the UK which supports the least-active disabled and non-disabled people to enjoy being active together.

The programme is being delivered in partnership Blackpool Coastal Housing. It aims to highlight the benefits of physical activity and increase the number of people who are able to access and enjoy local opportunities.

GOGA is funded by its founder, Spirit of 2012, and has received additional investment from Sport England and the London Marathon Charitable Trust. Active Blackpool’s GOGA programme will cater for people of all abilities and will promote the benefits that exercise can have on our self-esteem, physical health and mental wellbeing.

As well as being open to participants, a number of volunteer opportunities are also available, including the chance to become a community peer mentor.

Active Blackpool has also produced a GOGA booklet which contains guidance on how to keep active.

The document offers a range of home exercise tips, as well as advice on activities such as walking and cycling in the local community.

Cllr Maria Kirkland, Blackpool Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Cohesion and Leisure, said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to the Active Blackpool team. Not only have they shown great adaptability and determination by stepping up to help those who need it most during this difficult time, but they are also working so hard to provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to live healthier, more physically active lifestyles.

“With us all spending more time at home this year, staying active is more important than it has ever been, for both our physical and mental health. I would urge everyone to get involved and support Active Blackpool’s mission.”
