Learn 2 Swim

Active Blackpool offer swimming lessons for primary school aged children.

Our goal is to provide opportunities for children, young people and adults of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to develop a lifelong relationship with the water by providing high quality, professional swimming lessons in a fun, safe environment.

Active Blackpool’s philosophy of ‘progress through partnership’ ensures that not only do children, young people and adults have the opportunity to learn to swim but also progress and participate in a wide range of performance swimming programs and other aquatics activities.

We achieve this by aiming to:

  • Ensure every swimming lesson an enjoyable one
  • Develop your love of swimming
  • Make water safety our number one consideration
  • Individual assessment and progression to enable everyone to reach their full potential
  • Provide teaching staff with the most up to date teaching methods and practices
  • Have strong connections with local aquatics clubs to enable continued progression through swim programs

Covid-19 ‘Back to the pool’

Please check out the video to our video walkthrough for learn 2 swim lessons at Moor Park before your swimming lesson.

We are looking forward to a safe and secure return to swimming lessons and would like to inform you of the changes that we have made and the new learn 2 swim procedures.

The swimming pool will be closed to public whilst Learn 2 swim lessons are taking place.

In line with Swim England guidelines our class ratios have been reduced to ensure compliance with social distancing measures.

Children must come “beach ready” with swimming attire under outer clothing.

Due to limited seating only 1 adult spectator is permitted (siblings must be seated on your knee).

Please do not move the seating as it has been spaced 2 m apart, and please use the sanitiser wipes provided on seats before and after use.

A parent or guardian must remain on site if your child is under 8.

If your child is displaying any symptoms relating to Covid-19, including a high temperature, a new continuous cough or loss of sense of smell or taste, please do not bring them to the leisure centre for their swimming lesson. Please contact the NHS to arrange a test and remain home until you receive a negative result. Further information can be found at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

The swimming lesson

We have changed the pool layout for swimming lessons to enable children to perfect stroke technique over shorter distances.

Swimming lessons will be for 25 minutes.

All teaching will be carried out on poolside from designated teaching positions.

All equipment used within a lesson will be thoroughly rinsed with pool water and rotated prior to the next lesson starting.

Changing rooms

Following completion of the swimming lesson, children and spectators must exit into the changing rooms.

To prevent congestion please meet or wait for your child at the designated changing area for your child's swimming stage.

Showers are only available for rinsing off pool water.

Other swimming lessons

Covid 19 guidance recommends swimming teachers should not be in the water during swimming lessons, therefore Tiddlers, Adults and 1 to 1 swimming lessons are suspended until further notice, and government guidance changes.
