Finding a job for young people with SEND

Project Search is an international work placement programme for students and young people with learning difficulties.

Applications and referrals are open to students who meet the following criteria:

  • If you are 16 to 24 years old
  • You need to have an education, health and care (EHC) plan
  • Do you have the appropriate skills for the host business (confidentiality, customer care and communication)
  • Do you have the ability to take direction and change behaviour
  • You do not have to meet higher level academic requirements to apply

Most of all you need the desire to work!

Benefits to the students:

  • Participate in a variety of internships within the council and our partners
  • Acquire competitive, transferable and marketable job skills
  • Gain increased independence, confidence, and self esteem
  • Obtain work based coaching, instruction and feedback

Since its creation in 1997 it has launched more than 100 Project Search sites within the UK alone, with Blackpool being one of the original sites.

Supported internships

Supported Internships are for people aged 16 to 24 with learning difficulties or disabilities who need extra help to get a job. They are a study programme where you do most of your learning at work and some in college.

You can find out about supported internships from:

  • Your social worker or transition worker 
  • Job Centre Plus

The Platform

The Platform is a new service for 16 to 24 year olds to help them find a job, access training or education.

We have a new team of friendly employment advisers who work with you to ensure that you get support with things like CV writing, interview techniques, confidence building, arranging work experience placements, education and training and linking in with local job opportunities.
