Katie and Laura are just two of the thousands of residents supported by Blackpool Housing Company (BHC) over the last 10 years.
They’ve shared their experiences as BHC celebrates its first 10 years in business. Since 20215, BHC has:
- Supported 1,829 people into permanent accommodation
- Supported 1,668 tenants - like Katie and Laura
- Of these, 80% sustained their tenancies in 2024/25 alone
Through its My Blackpool Home lettings and management service, BHC provides high-quality, well-managed homes for local people. Its housing support and tenancy sustainment team helps residents maintain their tenancies and access the services they need.
Before moving into a My Blackpool Home, Katie and her son had lived in an unsuitable, badly maintained house for five years. Her physical and mental health were suffering and she was in and out of hospital.
BHC then purchased the house she was living in in 2021 and moved her into a newly renovated My Blackpool Home property which she has lived in ever since. Katie said:
BHC was created in response to exactly the kinds of housing challenges Katie faced. By buying and transforming empty or poor-quality properties, the company has set new standards for what good rental housing in the town can look like, and what Blackpool tenants should deserve.
New mum Laura was facing the same worries as Katie before she moved into a BHC-run home. She said:
To offer these stable, supportive tenancies, since 2015 BHC has:
- Invested £63m in better housing and neighbourhoods
- Delivered 772 homes into its lettings portfolio, and;
- Managed the delivery of 440 new homes for Blackpool Council
