Tour of Blackpool - Cycle Festival 2009
An exciting weekend of cycle racing will be taking place from Friday 3 July – Sunday 5 July 2009 supported by Blackpool council, NHS Blackpool, British Cycling and Cycling Development North West.

Friday 3 July
  Blackpool Grand Prix Des Dames.  This race features the top women cyclists in the country taking part in the National Women’s Circuit Race Series.  The race starts at 7:00 pm on the Promenade on a closed road circuit which runs from North to Central Pier.  

Blackpool Grand Prix Elite Men’s Circuit Race.  Watch the country’s best male racers on Blackpool’s promenade as part of British Cycling’s National Elite Series starting at 8:00 pm.  

Saturday 4 July
  Blackpool Youth Grand Prix.  It’s the turn on the up and coming youth riders to race on the middle and lower walks opposite the Imperial Hotel from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.   

This race is part of the National Youth Circuit Race Series - Regional A Circuit Race starts at 7:00 pm on the same course.  

Sunday 5 July
  Tour of Blackpool – starting and finishing at the Solaris Centre, 100 of the quickest and most colourful riders around will tackle approximately a 100 mile course around Fylde before a high speed finish on the Promenade.  The action starts at 9:00 am with the riders expected to return to the Solaris Centre for approximately 12:30 pm.  

Cllr Roy Haskett, Assistant Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture for Blackpool, said:  “By already holding a number of prestige cycling events over the past weeks and also these forthcoming top events, planned for this weekend, Blackpool is showing it's total commitment to be well worthy of a Cycling Town Status."
