If you operate a premises where certain goods are sold by way of competitive bidding you are required to be registered with the council. Auction Rooms are registered under the County of Lancashire Act 1984 part XII.

Each application is determined on its own merits.

  1. Download and complete the application form [PDF 106KB]. The application must be made by the occupier of, or a person proposing to occupy, the premises concerned. In the event of any of the persons referred to in the application being a limited company, the registered office address of the company must be given. The form should be completed by the applicant personally or, if a limited company, by a person duly authorised by the company to make the application. By virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, you may be entitled to disregard certain convictions. You should take appropriate advice if you are in any doubts as to what particulars to give
  2. Return with the fee as stated on the form (this is a one-off payment)
  3. Plans should be sent with the application

Following consultation with various departments including the police, applications are referred to the council’s public protection committee for grant or refusal, at which the applicant may attend in person if desired.

Once granted the registration stays in force unless the premises are vacated at which point it will cease to have effect. 

Tacit consent

Tacit consent applies. This means that you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from us by the end of the target completion period.

Failed application redress/Licence holder redress

If you wish to appeal against a decision you may appeal to the local magistrates court within 21 days of the notice of the decision.
