The service works collaboratively to support children and young people, families, settings and other agencies, recognising the valuable input of all involved. Through a collaborative, strengths based, solution focused approach, the service aims to build capacity, empower and develop feasible solutions. Additionally, it promotes learning, inclusion, wellbeing and positive outcomes for schools, children, young people and their families.
As the principal provider of educational psychology services to Blackpool schools, there is a free core allocation offer. A link Educational Psychologist (EP), Assistant EPs or associate EPs support settings within a service delivery model, accessible through the SENDCo of each school.
The service includes:
- Identifying needs, providing assessment, consultation and advice and support for children and young people.
- Consultation, advice and input as part of the assess, plan, do, review process to support children and young people.
- Advice and support to teaching assistants, teachers and those within settings.
- Input towards individual children and young people to ascertain their needs.
- Assessment and intervention, providing input towards a statutory needs assessment.
- Support and advice, working with early years settings, parents and carers, schools and colleges, out of borough settings, colleagues in other services and agencies including health, social care and voluntary organisations.
- Providing input regarding adapting the environment to assist with learning and access to the curriculum.
- Assisting with the development of appropriate behaviour in school.
- Supporting children and young people’s emotional health and well-being.
- Promoting and advising on children and young people’s language skills, social understanding and social skills.
- Instigating research and project work in partnership with universities and other parties.
- Contributing to national initiatives, strategic work, training and school development work.
