Questions to ask when looking for an early years place for your child

It is important to find the right setting for your child.

These questions are examples of what you can ask when visiting early years settings or child minders.

  1. How will you help my child to settle in?
  2. Who would be my first point of contact if I want to discuss something about my child?
  3. How do you know if a child needs extra help?
  4. How will you support my child?
  5. How will I be involved in my child's learning?
  6. How will you support my child in times of change, such as moving on to a new setting or into school?
  7. How will you check my child is happy and settled?
  8. What specialist services and expertise are available at, or are accessed by your setting?
  9. What training and experience have staff had with supporting children with SEND?
  10. How will you work with other agencies that are supporting my child or our family?
  11. How will my child be included in activities outside the room including physical activities and visits?
  12. How accessible is your environment?
