Can you spare some time to make a difference?

Are you a 'people person'? We're looking for local residents to volunteer some of their spare time to help those we support, from children to older adults, across a range of roles.

You don't have to have any previous experience, and you can volunteer as much or as little time as you can - we appreciate any support you can offer. We're always welcoming new volunteers to our team, and invite anybody over age 18 who might be interested in learning more about becoming a volunteer to get in touch.

Volunteers can make a difference to the lives of carers and those they care for including:

  • Adults with a physical or sensory impairment
  • Adults with learning disabilities
  • Children and young people with a limited network
  • Older people

Blackpool Centre for Independent Living

The Blackpool Centre for Independent Living (BCIL) is a day centre based on Whitegate Drive. The centre supports adults with a learning disability and offers those who attend the opportunity to get involved in activities based around their individual needs and interests. Here’s a list of roles available at BCIL: 

 

Gardening volunteer

Do you enjoy gardening and meeting new people? Why not help with the upkeep of the gardens at BCIL alongside other volunteers and enhance the space.

 

Meet and greet volunteer

Meet and greet volunteers assist those who enter the building by offering guidance to meeting rooms, updating leaflet stands and showing individuals where they can find the information they need.

 

Activity support

If you’re passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of others, this role will allow you to support an individual or a group through stimulating, entertaining activities with the help of other volunteers and staff.

 

Nibbles Café volunteer

Nibbles Café offers a wide range of development opportunities in a supportive, friendly catering environment. Our volunteers support staff with teaching new skills to service users and help them to complete any necessary training.

Social club volunteer

Social club volunteers are based in community centres around Blackpool. Volunteers in this role will help other volunteers and staff to support a group of people or an individual within a group with social and leisure activities. 

Out and about

Spend time with an adult who has a chronic illness, or a learning or physical disability while their carer has a short break. This may include taking part in social and leisure activities in the community on a one-to-one basis or in a group. 

Volunteer driver

For appointments

Support carers in Blackpool by transporting other volunteers to arranged meetings or social activities to enable them to participate.

 

For hospital discharge

Support patients who are being discharged by the Hospital Discharge Team by collecting them from the hospital and taking the patient back home following their discharge.

Vitaline

Vitaline provides a wide-ranging service to over 5,000 individuals living independently, connected to a variety of telecare technology. Each package is tailored to the needs and wishes of the client ranging from a basic pendant alarm to enhanced telecare packages.

 

Vitaline Volunteer

Vitaline volunteers will support with telephone welfare, which involves contacting clients via telephone to check if they are ok and/or need any help by asking a few questions.

Independent Visitor

If you’re interested in volunteering, having fun and making a difference to a young person's life, becoming an independent visitor might be the role for you.

Independent Visitors are matched with children who have little or no contact with their birth families, or where it is considered in their best interests for them to have an adult outside of the professional network, to provide a consistent, positive and supportive relationship.

Independent Visitors befriend and advise the child they are matched with, visiting them at their foster or residential home on a regular basis and taking them out, for example, to the park or beach, swimming, bowling, etc.

Anyone over the age of 21 years old is encouraged to apply.

Sitting service

Sitting service volunteers spend time with an adult who has a chronic illness, or a learning or physical disability in their home to give their carer a short break.  

Assessment Rehabilitation Centre (ARC)

The Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre (ARC) is a 33-bedded service providing rehabilitation and intermediate care to the residents of Blackpool.

ARC volunteer

Offer companionship and engagement in leisure activities with adults in a one to one or group-based setting, this may be in the communal area or the individual’s room, at the ARC supported by other volunteers and staff.

Phoenix Centre

The Phoenix service is a residential mental health service predominantly supporting adults who require support with their mental or social health.

Meet and greet volunteer

Assist members of the public/staff who enter the building, offering guidance to the correct department.

 

iPool training

If you’re computer savvy, you can help volunteers to access dedicated, digital-based iPool training at the Phoenix Centre, including mandatory courses required by the service.
