Coopers respite and short breaks service

Coopers @ Devonshire and Coopers @ Ambleside services offer Respite and Short Breaks to adults with Learning Disabilities, Autism and complex physical and/or complex health issues and challenging needs. The service offers planned short breaks and emergency care for people who meet the criteria.

The service is managed by a CQC (Care Quality Commissioners) registered manager, 2 deputy service managers and a staff team that are on shift over a 24-hour period.

Accessing the service

Referals are made through Blackpool Council's learning disability team. Once assessed you will be given a respite allocation, this will vary from person to person and is dependent on the needs of all involved. Your allocation of respite nights is to use as you wish throughout the year.

The aim of the respite facility is to provide a personalised service, tailored to each person’s individual assessed needs. The staff team will work with the individual (link worker) prior to any stay and their family to produce a holistic comprehensive care and support plan as part of the transition into the service.

We will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure a personalised service that is revised as an when needs change or on an annual basis. The staff team will ensure independence is encouraged wherever possible and assist people to learn new skills, as they would at home.

Our properties

The properties are a homely and safe environment with a fully trained staff team with the relevant mix of skills to meet the needs of the people accessing the service. We have an extensive training portfolio to include bespoke training as per individuals' need.

The properties have private bedrooms all which are en-suite and ceiling track hoists are fitted throughout. All the rooms have Smart televisions, DVD players and music systems and are tastefully decorated with soft furnishings. The bedrooms are also fitted with an emergency nurse-call system. There is a lift at one of the properties to allow access to all areas. There is a light bright communal lounge area with access to the external garden area.

We have a sensory lounge with interactive sensory equipment that is fully accessible with piped music and a wall mounted television where people can relax and be entertained. The staff team will provide stimulating entertaining activities within the building. Themed nights and weekends are planned, this is usually around events during the year.

Coopers Respite service's are regulated and inspected by the Care Quality Commission.
