Resident parking schemes help ensure that parking in the town remains fair, efficient, and sustainable. However, they are not suitable for all areas.
Schemes are subject to set criteria and will only be considered when other options would not work
We asses all new scheme requests based on factors such as:
- Our policies
- Availability of off-street parking in the area
- Parking demand
Please read the eligibility criteria carefully before submitting your request.
Eligibility for consideration
- Off-street parking: The majority of properties in the proposed area do not have off-street parking. Or have enough space (minimum 4.8 m depth) to create off-street parking
- Parking pressures: The street must consistently experience high parking demand. Which has a significant impact on the residents' ability to park near their homes
- Area usage: The area must not be a primary destination for non-residents. This can include commercial, business or tourist areas
- Residential area: The majority of properties in the proposed area must be residential. There should be minimal influence from businesses, transient populations, or mixed-use development
- Existing restrictions: The area does not have any parking restrictions or policies that conflict with a resident parking scheme
- Community support: A least of 50% of affected households in the proposed area will need to agree with the proposal
Important notes
- You will need to meet all the criteria for your proposal to be considered
- You will need to provide evidence to prove that all criteria has been met
- Meeting the above criteria will only allow us to consider your proposal. It does not guarantee that a scheme will be created
