Cooling towers and evaporative condensers help to remove excess heat from sites like power stations, chemical plants and factories.
You must advise the council if your commercial site uses a cooling tower or evaporative condenser.
You must also tell us if your commercial site’s cooling tower or evaporative condenser is going to be changed, no longer used or removed.
You don’t need to notify us if:
- The cooling tower or evaporative condenser doesn’t contain water that’s exposed to the air
- It's water or electricity supplies are not connected

Applications can be made online. Registration is free.
Upon receipt of your application you may be contacted by a council representative to arrange a safety inspection of your site.
We aim to process your application within 28 days.
