Project Search - For employers

Project Search is an international work placement programme for students and young people with learning difficulties.

Since its creation in Cincinnati in 1997 it has launched 24 Project search sites within the UK alone.

The national average employment rate for people with disabilities in the UK is 7.7%, in Blackpool this figure is just 1.8%. Blackpool Council is committed to raising aspirations for all its young people across the town, this includes those with and without disability and has a number of apprenticeship schemes and work placement opportunities across the borough. This project is the first of its kind in Blackpool, and Blackpool Council has committed to running this partnership programme beyond 2016!

Project SEARCH listed as best practice in the 2010 Ofsted Review, Special Educational Needs Green Paper, the DWP Sayce Report and the Equalities and Human Rights Commission Review. In 2012 there were 6 sites across the UK who implemented Project Search – and together they achieved over 60% job success. In Blackpool we want to make this 100% and we need your help!

Benefits to the Business:

  • Access to a new, diverse, talent stream with skills that match labour needs
  • Gain intern/ employees with disabilities who serve as a role model for customers
  • Experience increased regional and national recognition through marketing of this unique program
  • Performance and retention in some high-turnover, entry-level positions increase dramatically
