Most candidates stand as a member of a political party, but you can stand for election as an independent candidate (ie without belonging to any political party).

If you want to stand as a candidate for a political party, please contact that party to discuss their requirements for standing.

Standing as an independent candidate

If you have questions about standing as an independent candidate, the Local Government Association Independent Group may be able to help.

Expressing an interest in standing

If you would like to stand for election in Blackpool you should register your interest by emailing electoral.registration@blackpool.gov.uk or call 01253 477161.

Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission has produced guidance for candidates and agents for both political party and independent candidates. 

Key Election deadlines and information

  • Deadline for nominations – 4.00pm Tuesday 4 April 2023
  • Registration to vote deadline – 12 midnight on Monday 17 April 2023, register online now
  • Postal vote deadline – 5.00pm  Tuesday 18 April 2023
  • Proxy vote deadline – 5.00pm – Tuesday 25 April 2023
  • Deadline to request Voter ID – 5.00pm – Tuesday 25 April 2023
