From Tuesday 26 May to Friday 10 July, essential preventative maintenance will take place on the bridge, which carries Yeadon Way over Hawes Side Lane, and is one of the key routes into Blackpool.

To complete the works safely, Hawes Side Lane will be closed between Pedders Lane and Dewhurst Avenue for approximately 7 weeks, weather permitting. Vehicles travelling on Yeadon Way will be unaffected by the works.

The proposed works will involve the repairing and repointing of brickwork and masonry, cleaning and removal of graffiti, renewal of low headroom signage and resurfacing Hawes Side Lane in the immediate vicinity of the bridge.

The project is being delivered by Coating Services Ltd, on behalf of Blackpool Council, as part of a package deal with major upgrade works on Waterloo Road Bridge taking place this Spring.

The work is essential to protect the structural integrity of the bridge, which was originally built in the 1890’s.

Access for pedestrians and (dismounted) cyclists will be available throughout the period of the works. The diversion route for vehicular traffic will be clearly signed along Pedders Lane, St. Annes Road, Watson Road, and vice versa.

“These improvements are essential to ensure the long-term safety and protect the structural integrity of the bridge, which carries Yeadon way over Hawes Side Lane, a key route into Blackpool. “The works form part of our wider plans to maintain Blackpool’s infrastructure and roads, helping to make the town better for residents, businesses and visitors. Across Blackpool there are 26 bridges that are vital to keeping people moving, and carrying out essential maintenance is the only way to protect them. “We recognise that these works will cause some disruption for those travelling through the area, and we ask road users to allow extra time for their journeys and follow the diversion routes in place. “We thank residents, businesses and visitors for their patience while this work is completed. Once finished, it will ensure this important route into Blackpool remains open and safe for many years to come.”
