Blackpool Council has implemented key changes to the layout of the Aldi car park in Bispham, Holyoake Avenue to improve safety for road users.

The former entrance on Holyoake Avenue has been revised to ‘Exit Only’, with vehicles now required to access the car park via the entrance near Pets at Home.

The changes include:

  • Installation of new entrance and exit signage
  • Updated carriageway markings
  • Adjustments to the internal Aldi car park layout

These improvements were introduced following a series of concerns about safety at the Holyoake Avenue junction.

The previous layout had seen a number of collisions, particularly involving drivers approaching from the Bispham Road, Plymouth Road and Warbreck Hill Road traffic lights, attempting to turn right across two lanes of traffic to enter the car park.

Blackpool Council coordinated the changes to ensure both the carriageway and markings on the private car park would be updated together.

The updated layout became operational last month, following some road resurfacing on Holyoake Avenue.

Following reports of drivers continuing to use the old entrance out of habit, council officers conducted a site visit to confirm all signage and road markings were in place.

“We have coordinated these necessary changes, following careful review of safety concerns at the Holyoake Avenue access point. “We worked to ensure the updated layout on the store’s private car park aligned with the junction changes on Holyoake Avenue. These adjustments were introduced to improve safety for all road users. “Our officers visited the site following the updates and confirmed that all road markings and signage are in place. “We are aware that some drivers may still attempt to use the previous entrance out of habit, we would encourage road users to follow the new layout to minimise the risk of collision and help ensure the junction operates as intended.”
