Apply for a secondary school place

If your child is starting their final year at primary school in September 2016, he/she will be transferring to secondary school in September 2017.

This provides you with essential information on the process of applying for a school, and the criteria that is used to allocate places.


The closing date for secondary applications was 31 October 2016, so you are now unable to apply online. 

National offer date

The national offer date for secondary school applications is 1 March 2017

If you have applied online, you can access your account for confirmation of your offered school.  If you apply on a paper application form, a letter will be posted to you on this date.

Late applications 

Late applications can be submitted after the closing date on a paper application form, which is available on request from any Blackpool primary school or Blackpool School Admissions.  An electronic version of the application form is available on this page.

School open evenings

Please read the Guide for Parents - Admission to Blackpool Secondary Schools for details on the open evenings. 

St George's School, a Church of England Academy

If you are applying for St George's School, a Church of England Academy on faith grounds, you must complete a supplementary information form which is available from the school.

St Mary's Catholic Academy

If you are applying for St Mary's Catholic Academy on faith grounds, you are required to provide a copy of your child's baptismal certificate.

Voluntary Aided schools outside Blackpool

If you are applying for a Voluntary Aided school that is outside Blackpool, you must complete a supplementary form (available from the school) and/or provide a copy of your child's baptismal certificate, which should be sent direct to the school(s).

Moving house

If you move house once you have submitted your application, you will need to provide proof of your new address to  Blackpool School Admissions  as soon as possible.

Applying for an independent or special school

If you are applying for an independent (fee paying) school, you must apply directly to the school. If your child needs to access a place at a special school, this will be arranged by the Special Educational Needs Officer.
