Application process and timescales

The application process, costs and timescales may be different for each centre so please contact them directly to discuss your requirements.
Applications for summer 2022 GCSEs must be submitted by each centre by mid February 2022, later applications will incur substantial additional charges. We would advise that you contact any centres before the end of January 2022 latest as you may need to arrange an appointment at the centre.

Costs

As a guide the approximate fee per GCSE subject starts at £200 , per IGCSE £2000 and Functional Skills (English, Maths and IT) £90 per subject, plus administration costs and invigilator costs where applicable. The cost for AS and A levels start from £200 per paper.
Below is a timetable indicating entry closing dates for GCSEs, IGCSEs, AS and A Levels and any additional late entry fees. Again we would suggest you contact each exam centre for more detailed information

Access arrangements, reasonable adjustments and special consideration

Access arrangements are pre-examination adjustments for candidates based on evidence of need and normal way of working. These arrangements allow candidates/learners with special educational needs, disabilities or temporary injuries to access the assessment without changing the demands of the assessment.  For example, readers, scribes and Braille question papers
Further information can be found on the Joint Council for Qualifications website. Some of the exam centres listed above may be able to facilitate access arrangements so please contact them to discuss individual requirements.

Additional information for private candidates wishing to take examinations may also be found on the relevant examination board website:

If you would like any further help and advice regarding accessing exams please don't hesitate to contact myself or any other member of the team.

If you are aware of any other centres in Lancashire that accept private candidates, or have any other information that may be helpful to home educating families we would like to hear from you so that we can include these.
